Maths Week 5 Term 3 2021 Solving word problems

 Another thing we have been  learning in maths is how to solve word problems involving combinations of things. You had to be able to write addition equations showing as many different   combinations as we could. Some people found it was useful to do your figuring out using a table. But not the kind of table you eat off-a mathematical table. Here is my work.

Maths week 6

We are learning how to look at numbers, how they work and how you can group them. We did an activity called Numbers as shapes. It’s a bit like algebra thinking. Here is my work.

We have been learning about how to use Compatible Numbers. Compatible Numbers are any two numbers which add together to make a Tidy Number 

(a  number which ends in zero).  We had to choose two Compatible Numbers and another number. Then we had to think of a word problem which used our numbers and give the problem to a buddy to solve. Mrs Ogle, our maths facilitator, said this is called 'posing problems'.

My 'posing problem' is: Jimin had 6 BTS concert tickets, and Oli bought 4 more and then RM brought 1 more. How many concert tickets all together? 

6+4+1=11

Maths: Geometry Safari

This term for maths we have been learning about 2D and 3D geometry.  Elise, Max and I were in a team. We went on a Geometry Safari around the school grounds to see how many 2D  and 3D shapes we could find. Then we had to write what we had found into a table. You can see ours below

Volume and Capacity

This week we used popcorn to learn about volume and capacity.

For maths this week we read a book called 1 is a snail and ten is a crab we then worked in groups  to create a new version. My book is called Number store. here is the book hope you like it!

Maths

For maths we have been working in mixed ability groups to solve problems. The focus has been solving word problems using place value. We have to select the correct the correct strategy to solve the problem. I have chosen two problems to show you how I work them out.
I find that you can add tens together and ones together to get the answer and with it you can use addition and subtraction

Telling the Time

We have been learning to tell the time. We had to show the time on the clock we made and take a photo. Here is my time.  

Vaseline Saucers

 A couple of weeks ago we did a Symmetrical Vaseline  saucer. The best thing I like is the flowers and I used symmetry to help me with it. I liked how I almost made it symmetrical and here is my photo.

Basic Facts Test Term three

Yesterday on Tuesday we did a basic facts test and we only had 3 minutes to fill one of the sides and then the other side. I need to get faster so I can fill out the whole sheet. I need to work on finishing Stage 4 so I can be on Stage 5 for basic facts.

ASB getwise

On Wednesday we had Marlon from ASB Get wise talking to us about saving our money, spending money on needs not wants and using invisible money ie eftpos. I have made a google draw to show what I have learnt.
